Supplementation Is Important In Todays Age

Out of the entire population, a lot of us supplement, but what are the benefits of supplementing and why do we do it? The health world has come out many times and publicised how great various vitamins and minerals are, such as the benefits of Vitamin C, and such medical reports and good press is the main reason we then start to invest our cold hard earned cash in some supplements to give ourself a great sense of well being.

The underlying truth is that the public tends to take supplements because our diets tend to be poor and our diets tend to be consisted of a lot of sugar type foods and processed foods which of course lose a lot of their natural benefit such as vitamins and minerals etc.

Many individuals in the health profession have for a long time promoted the benefits of natural consumption such as fruits and vegs, but despite this continuous promotion of eating natural, individuals diets still do not reflect what their fruit and vegetable consumption should be.

The good news is, that the vast majority of us on the planet consume meat, and as we consume meat we do get some valuable content in the form of vitamins and in particular iron. Iron is essential for general well being, so if you eat a lot of meat, then chances are that you have more then enough iron circulating around your body to take care of you.

Unfortunately though this means bad news for vegetarians as they wont be getting nearly as much iron as meat eaters, therefore vegetarians are a class of people who may wish to consider iron supplementation.

It also may not surprise you to learn that as a nation we are becoming more lazy and it seems that being lazy and having a poor diet go hand in hand. Just think about stereotypes for a moment who tend to be larger in some professions compared to others. A profession which may spring to mind could be long distance truck drivers. We tend to have these stereotypical ideas purely because people like this do not get much spare time and then rely on processed food etc which tends to result in weight gain.

So what should you do? Listen to your body. Your body tends to tell you what it desires, whether you get a craving for Sugar and have to consume a chocolate bar, or whether you get a craving for meat and therefore have to consume something which composes of a combination of meat and protein too.

So you may have decided that you wish to start supplementing, and whilst you may have made this decision, you may be asking yourself the question of when should you supplement? The answer is entirely up to you. A lot of people tend to supplement after they start feeling ill or lethargic and some people supplement to ensure they reduce the possibilities of feel ill etc. The choice is yours.
